Messi to make his Super Bowl debut Football superstar set to appear in Michelob Ultra ad
The biggest award in football has been won by Lionel Messi. Now he will be a part of the greatest day in football.
The World Cup winner, international soccer icon, and star of Inter Miami will be the focus of a Michelob Ultra Super Bowl advertisement, the company revealed Tuesday. A 60-second preview of the commercial features Messi approaching a bar, ordering a beer, and his shock when the tap stops running.
It will be Messi’s first Super Bowl ad and broadens his enormous worldwide and US advertising reach. The game takes place in Las Vegas on February 11.
His partnership with Michelob Ultra’s parent company, Anheuser-Busch, began in 2020. The Super Bowl spot is part of the beer’s sizeable investment in soccer. The ad follows the brand being revealed as the global beer sponsor of this summer’s Copa America.
When the men’s World Cup travels to the US, Canada, and Mexico in 2026—when Messi and Argentina will try to defend their titles—Ultra is also anticipated to team up with the competition.
With major companies like adidas, Gatorade, Hard Rock International, Royal Caribbean, and Apple TV collaborating with him, Messi is a marketing dream. His following on Instagram is close to 500 million, making him a huge social media influencer.
Anheuser-Busch regularly spends millions on Super Bowl advertisements; one year’s game had an asking price of up to $7 million for a 30-second spot, which firms paid to be on the biggest stage in US advertising and potentially reach over 100 million viewers.
The beverage giant featured a Michelob Ultra commercial with a sports theme in last year’s Super Bowl lineup. The commercial was set at the fictional Bushwood Country Club in Caddyshack and featured tennis great Serena Williams, Tony Romo, a former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys and current TV analyst, Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat, golfer Rickie Fowler, soccer player Alex Morgan, and boxer Canelo Alvarez.
Messi is among the best goal scorers in the history of the sport, having scored more than 800 goals for both club and country.
In the most recent World Cup final (2022), Argentina defeated France on penalty kicks, and he scored twice.
Messi is regarded as the most successful player in soccer history, having won the Champions League four times, won an Olympic gold medal, and contributed to 44 trophy victories total.
