Genoa now make approach to sign Everton defender Ben Godfrey despite what Sean Dyche said.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Genoa has now launched an attempt to buy Everton defender Ben Godfrey during the January transfer window.
On Friday, January 26, the Italian daily announced on page 20 of its print edition that the Serie A club, which is controlled by 777 Partners, the prospective owners of the Toffees, had asked for details regarding the 26-year-old’s availability this month.
It follows Blues manager Sean Dyche’s announcement on Thursday, January 25, that there has been no progress on a deal for the English center defender. Dyche also stated that the center back’s attitude is “outstanding,” even though he is “frustrated at his lack of game time at Goodison Park.”
When asked if Godfrey might go, Dyche responded, “No (news on a move).” Ben is progressing quite nicely.
“His attitude is outstanding and he’s well thought of in the group. He hasn’t had much game time and is frustrated with that obviously. Frustrated not to play. But he’s pushing himself and the group and is a fantastic professional.”
There is still almost a week left to go in the January transfer window so there is plenty of time for moves to happen as clubs look to strengthen their squads this month.
There hasn’t been much movement in the Premier League due to the restrictions around FFP, but that won’t stop European clubs from looking to do business.
Godfrey has only made three appearances this season, therefore it looks like Genoa is already considering a potential deal for him.
The Toffees are unlikely to obstruct him if they receive a respectable offer for his services, as it’s quite logical that he’ll want to go play more often somewhere.
That would free up some salary, which would enable Dyche to go and bolster a position where he believes his team is especially thin as he attempts to stave off relegation once more this season.
