Following the dismissal of 14-year offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. this summer, the New Orleans Saints are currently looking for a new offensive coordinator. Dennis Allen, who is entering his third season as head coach after finishing 16–18 in his previous two, was kept on by the Saints.

The same candidates that New Orleans has already interviewed or asked to interview are being pursued by a number of teams. Eight people in all have reportedly either been asked to interview or have had interviews scheduled with the Saints. Due to the signing of former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron by the Chicago Bears, that number was reduced to seven.

Here are each of the seven candidates:

Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Zac Robinson

Since 2019, Zac Robinson has served as Sean McVay’s assistant coach for the Los Angeles Rams. In 2020, he transitioned from assistant quarterbacks coach to assistant wide receivers coach. In 2021, he returned to his previous role as assistant quarterbacks coach. Two seasons later, he was elevated to quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator.

From 2010 to 2013, Robinson, an Oklahoma State quarterback, was a member of four separate teams. The New England Patriots selected him in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Robinson and none of his teams saw the field.

The 37-year-old is one of the most well-liked contenders for offensive coordinator. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reports that he conducted interviews with the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Saints in addition to the vacancy.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher

Dan Pitcher began his NFL career in the scouting department of the Indianapolis Colts after playing Division III quarterback at Colgate and SUNY Cortland. Pitcher started as an offensive assistant for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2016 under head coach Marvin Lewis. Pitcher was elevated to assistant quarterbacks coach upon the hiring of current coach Zac Taylor in 2019. He has been Taylor’s quarterbacks coach since 2020.

Pitcher might remain with the Bengals and take over as Taylor’s offensive coordinator going forward, given that Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan was recently hired as the Tennessee Titans’ new head coach. Breer reports that he will meet with the Saints for a second interview on Thursday in New Orleans. He also has scheduled interviews in Las Vegas and New England.

QB coach for the Houston Texans, Jerrod Johnson

This season, Jerrod Johnson—another former NFL quarterback who never saw action—joined DeMeco Ryans’ staff as his quarterbacks coach. He formerly served as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings, and Indianapolis Colts.

Johnson had interviews on Monday with the Saints and the offensive coordinator roles with the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles.
