After an amazing 20-year career that included stints at Ibrox, Southampton, Aston Villa, Fulham, and a record-breaking 140 caps for Northern Ireland, the 39-year-old midfielder announced his retirement this evening. He is now the most-capped international player in the UK as a result.
A devastating cruciate knee ligament injury interrupted Davis’s campaign last season, but it was revealed in the summer that he will continue to use the club’s facilities for his recuperation in the hopes of returning to the field. But with his choice to retire, he has essentially conceded defeat in that regard.
