Ibrox icon would ‘find it strange’ if Rangers agreed deal for £3.5m ace

Ibrox legend would “find it strange” if Rangers and the £3.5 million star struck a contract.

Neil McCann, a former idol of the Ibrox, says he would be perplexed if Rangers, a Scottish Premiership contender, allowed Ridvan Yilmaz to sign with Galatasaray, a Turkish powerhouse, without having a backup plan.

Galatasaray still has two more weeks to negotiate with a player who has come to their attention eighteen months after departing from Besiktas, their neighbors in Istanbul, in order to try their luck in Scotland, as the Turkish transfer market closes on February 9th.

Throughout the window, Ridvan Yilmaz has been strongly associated with a departure from Rangers.

However, McCann believes Rangers would be better served by holding onto Yilmaz for the duration of the season after the player maintained an impressive run of form. This was demonstrated by his well-taken opener in Wednesday’s 3-0 victory at Hibernian. especially considering that Philippe Clement let several possible replacements slide through his hands.

Rangers defeat Hibernian with an impeses from Ridvan Yilmaz.

“I think there’s still a chance he could have a future,” McCann tells BBC SportScene, the 22-year-old converting a fine John Lundstram assist at Easter Road.

“If they don’t get a replacement, then I’d find it strange they’d let Ridvan Yilmaz walk out the door.”

Finding a natural successor is proving to be easier said than done.

Liverpool blocked their approach for Owen Beck, Kai Wagner stayed on at Philadelphia Union, David Jurasek left Benfica for Hoffenheim, and one-time Hibs ace Josh Doig is now a Sassuolo player.

Anass Salah-Eddine of Ajax is the latest name under consideration, via Fabrizio Romano, but it is not certain as things stand whether the Eredivisie giants would green-light a mid-season move.

“Incredible”

“I believe that Yilmaz, the boy, may be seeking a change due to his lack of use. I think he’s battled to establish consistency and freedom of injury,” McCann adds.

However, his goal at Easter Road is a really wise choice. It’s a lovely finishing touch and a lovely way to set him up. His finest play comes from a full-back position, where he excels in one-on-one defensive situations.

“I believe the boy will accept the suggestion from Galatasaray to return to Turkey if the chance arises. However, I don’t believe they should sell him if they can’t find a replacement. He ought to stay with them.

“He demonstrated that he had something there (against Hibs). Additionally, Philippe Clement has a talent for inspiring athletes to give their best.

Just a few hours before the Easter Road game began, Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk made a hint about a move for Yimaz. The team has made a left-back a “priority,” and Angelino, a former Manchester City player, may be headed to Italy.
