Confusion surrounds Hearts moving to replace Rangers target Lawrence Shankland.
Although Lys Mousset’s future is unclear, Rangers could be planning a late move for Heart of Midlothian forward Lawrence Shankland.
Rangers defeated Hibernian 3-0 on Wednesday night, and with the arrival of Nordsjaelland midfielder Mohamed Diomande, they are almost ready to make a second January acquisition.
Despite the fact that Danilo and Kevin Roofe are both sidelined by injuries, Philippe Clement may still be looking to add players. A new striker is undoubtedly on the radar.
After Sam Lammers was traded to Utrecht, Rangers might still pursue a striker despite the arrival of Fabio Silva.
Confusion surrounds Hearts moving to replace Rangers target Lawrence Shankland
One of the main names linked of late is Lawrence Shankland.
The 28-year-old has hit 18 goals in all competitions this season, continuing to thrive at the head of the Hearts attack.
A boyhood Rangers fan, Shankland has been heavily touted for a move to Ibrox of late.
Reports from Sky Sports just last week suggested that Rangers are interested in signing Shankland and a deal is viewed as feasible if some players move on first.
A £3million price tag has been mentioned for Shankland and Rangers fans may have been getting excited amid claims that Hearts have found a potential replacement.
The Sun’s Alan Nixon suggested that Hearts have identified Lys Mousset as a potential signing ‘as they fear the loss’ of Shankland before the deadline.
Mousset is a free agent having been released by Bundesliga side VfL Bochum earlier this month and Hearts were allegedly interested.
The 27-year-old needs a new team after playing for Sheffield United and Bournemouth in English football; however, the Hearts rumors have already been refuted.
According to Joel Sked of Hearts Standard, Mousset is not a target for Hearts and is not expected to arrive at Tynecastle anytime soon.
Regarding Shankland’s future, these contradictory rumors simply serve to cast doubt on it. Are the Hearts considering any possible successors?
Rangers may think so, even if Mousset isn’t their guy, but if Clement and company want Shankland, they should place their proposal now rather than waiting till the last minute. Time is running out.
