Rangers star might’ve played final game at Ibrox; talks with Premier League club confirmed.
Rangers are waiting on the results of injury tests before making a decision over the future of Abdallah Sima, a Brighton loanee, according to Philippe Clement.
The 22-year-old Senegalese international attacker was sent home from the AFCON early due to an ailment that is now considered to be “long-term.”
Before the trip to Hibs, Rangers manager Philippe Clement was questioned about the situation, but he would not comment on details until he had them.
Rangers are awaiting the outcome of final tests on Abdallah Sima and it’s only then that they will confirm the status of the injury and whether or not Brighton want the forward back down south.
As things stand, Clement has confirmed Rangers are in close conversation with Brighton about the situation.
“I expect to have more news today, latest tomorrow, from my medical staff and I always listen to them and not towards other people,” said Clement.
“It will take time. I wish to have the correct information because of this.
When asked if he would send Abdallah Sima back to Brighton, Clement replied, “Yes, that’s something to talk about.” If our evaluation of the injury and our course of action is accurate. I want to share the information when I have it, not before, for this reason. Naturally, as soon as we were approached, we got in touch with Brighton directly, and that’s how we collaborated.
Abdallah Sima’s Rangers career to end in Brighton blow?
With supporters set to find out the outcome of the situation following the match with Hibs, it means Abdallah Sima might well have played his final game for Rangers.
Given the forward’s quite explosive form for the club since joining on loan from Brighton in the summer, it’s quite hard to quantify just how big a blow this is for the club.
Having scored 15 goals for Rangers across the last six months, the blow has been softened by the fact the Senegalese forward was initially set to miss up to eight games due to AFCON anyway.
But if the injury is to rule him out longer than this – even sending Abdallah Sima back to Brighton – then Rangers will have lost a fine player who had the potential to shoot us to further glory this season.
What’s more, the player’s agent was speaking just this week about how much Abdallah Sima loves it at Rangers and how much the £7m forward wants to make the deal permanent.
If he’s to return to Brighton, it leaves the suggestion of any permanent switch to Rangers firmly up in the air and has the potential to crash a deal.
Rangers might well be ruing not moving for one alternative earlier in the window, but in the meantime the Gers are a talented forward down and – we assume – making contingency plans to replace him this January.
Rangers injury woes deepen amid transfer tension
Rangers and injuries are two words so synonymous with each other than the news of Abdallah Sima’s issue was met with a titter by most of the supporters.
The Ibrox club has had a devastating injury record for well over 24 months yet continue to invest in crocked players for whom they are – quite clearly – not providing adequate rehabilitation.
Throwing Abdallah Sima into the mix and suddenly north of £20m of talent is not on the pitch and draining the wage bill; if Abdallah Sima is out for the season, the club really has no choice but to send him back to Brighton and hope they can find similar quality within a stretched budget. Stumbling from one fitness disaster to the next can no longer be attributed to bad luck, and Philippe Clement is the man tasked with resolving Rangers’ injury woes.
