Rangers made a strong demand to sell Ridvan Yilmaz this month, and if they can meet that demand, they might be close to making a tidy profit of £1 million or more at Ibrox.

According to a report by Turkish news journalist Kadir Cetincali on January 22, the Light Blues have placed a £5.5 million price tag on Yilmaz in response to Galatasaray’s January transfer interest.

For the full-back, the Gers have demanded a “very high” transfer price, and they want the funds immediately.

Additionally, it has been stated that Galatasaray and Rangers are now in talks to sign the player, with Yilmaz being their only active target this month, according to Mustafa Ozgur Sancar.

The Turkish giants ended RB Leipzig defender Angelino’s loan period early in order to find a left-back option. Yilmaz is reportedly a major target and may now finally be able to leave Ibrox.

And it seems the Gers have been smart to set his price tag at such a figure which means they could well bank a much-needed £1m+ profit on the left-back.

Rangers are asking for a significant bid for Yilmaz after signing him from Besiktas for an initial fee of £3.4million, rising to £5million with add-ons, as per BBC Sport.

Despite agreeing to a five-year contract in July 2022, the 22-year-old’s Ibrox career has been underwhelming. Even after making 30 appearances, Philippe Clement has made it clear that he wants to sign a new left-back.

Even though Yilmaz has started a good number of games under Clement, he has consistently drawn criticism for his unimpressive performances, and it appears the Belgian is sick of it already.

For a player who has only been with the team for under two years, £5.5 million may seem like a costly price, but considering his age, potential, and ceiling should he flourish in the future, it is reasonable and sensible.

The Gers are entitled to want such a payment because his Ibrox contract doesn’t end until 2027 [Transfermarkt].

Rangers are in dire need of an upgrade for both Borna Barisic and Yilmaz, which makes the Turkish defender’s possible departure at this price seem highly wise.

Although Yilmaz’s Ibrox career has turned out to be a complete disaster, it’s better for everyone to move on for the time being.

In other Rangers news, the agent of Abdallah Sima has mentioned a long-term move.
