Fabrizio Romano claims Rangers are now trying to sign Ajax talent.
Rangers will have competition from Italian team Torino if they want to sign Ajax left defender Anass Salah-Eddine.
This January transfer window, Rangers has been connected to a number of left backs, but none of them have signed.
There has been some uncertainty about one name; according to sources from the Netherlands, Rangers have launched an attempt to sign FC Twente left back Gijs Smal.
There will be no deal for Smal this month, according to the Scottish media, who are convinced that Rangers have no interest in him at all.
Rangers could still look to the Dutch market though and a new name is being linked with a move to Ibrox this afternoon.
Rangers keen on Ajax talent Anass Salah-Eddine
Fabrizio Romano now reports that Rangers are keen on Ajax left back Anass Salah-Eddine.
Romano states that Ajax are open to loaning out Salah-Eddine until the end of the season and Rangers are a potential destination.
It’s suggested that ‘several clubs’ are interested in Salah-Eddine with Torino ready to challenge Rangers for his signature.
Romano notes that nothing has been agreed just yet but we could see movement on Salah-Eddine’s future before next week’s transfer deadline.
Salah-Eddine hails from Amsterdam but only joined the Ajax ranks at 16 having previously been in the AZ Alkmaar youth setup.
After impressing for the Jong Ajax side, Salah-Eddine stepped up to first-team level but has only ever made 10 senior appearances for Ajax.
Salah-Eddine has only played six league games this season and none since a seven-minute substitute appearance against Vitesse Arnhem in November.
Salah-Eddine, who spent the previous season on loan at Twente and, strangely, provided competition for the aforementioned Smal, may now be ready to move out on loan once more.
With his understanding of the Dutch game, Salah-Eddine, 22, is a player that Nils Koppen will be keeping an eye on. He can also play in midfield.
In an attempt to acquire Salah-Eddine on loan and maybe free up Ridvan Yilmaz, Rangers may now exert pressure, but a matchup with Torino may complicate matters in the days ahead.
