With the hiring of Antonio Pierce as head coach and Tom Telesco as general manager, the Las Vegas Raiders have finally filled the two most important jobs on their staff. They still lack virtually the entire offensive side of the ball, though.
It has been reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo that the Raiders are considering Mike Sullivan as an additional offensive coordinator.
They have conducted innumerable interviews with candidates who are either rising through the ranks or who have experience as offensive coordinators. In this instance, Mike Sullivan, the quarterback coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, worked as an offensive coordinator for the New York Giants from 2016–17 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2012–13.
What A to Z Sports is like Regarding Sullivan, Pittsburgh’s Rob Gregson said the following about what to anticipate if he is hired:
Mike Sullivan is beloved inside the locker room, according to players and sources. His upbeat nature is analogous to an offensive Pete Carroll. Pittsburgh was pleased with Sullivan’s ability to generate offense after taking over as interim play-caller following Matt Canada’s firing. Sullivan coordinated an offense that went undefeated down the stretch when either Kenny Pickett or Mason Rudolph started and finished the game. From what I understand, the only reason he’s not staying on as QB Coach in Pittsburgh is because the team doesn’t want to create an awkward situation between him and the soon-to-be-hired OC. Sullivan is expected to have a hot market and would be an excellent addition to any offense. – Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports
Sullivan will undoubtedly continue to be a name that the Raiders are considering as they face some difficult choices over the course of the next week.
