Philippe Clement confirms talented 20-year-old will leave Rangers this month

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has confirmed that Alex Lowry will be sent back out on loan this January.

After spending six months away from Ibrox, Hearts transferred the 20-year-old attacking midfielder back to Rangers, according to the Belgian boss.

Speaking prior to the Scottish Premiership match against Hibs, Philippe Clement made it apparent that Rangers did not make the choice to bring Alex Lowry back to Glasgow.

It follows the Rangers manager’s announcement that Robby McCrorie, Lowry’s fellow Academy alumnus, will not be departing the team in January.

Philippe Clement on Alex Lowry

Philippe Clement was asked about the situation with Alex Lowry following the midfielder’s return to the club from Hearts.

Since Alex Lowry is expected to be out of Steven Naismith’s starting lineup for the second half of the season, the Jambos appear ready to bolster their roster by adding Charlton star Scott Fraser on a loan.

According to Clement, “the clear plan with Alex is that we want him to go on loan again to get minutes.”

That is the strategy for him because it will be challenging for him to gain experience and minutes in the current team. However, there was a clear plan in place for him to gain experience, gain strength, and gain minutes over the course of a year. to make a good appraisal in the summer after returning in a respectable manner.

Alex Lowry made 17 appearances for Hearts this season, scoring once and laying on four assists.

Time running out for Rangers talent

It is evident that Philippe Clement does not have Alex Lowry in mind for the team this season, and the Rangers’ talented player may be a long way off.

Lowry was once one of the best young players to come out of the Academy, but his progress was impeded by an injury he suffered prior to the start of the previous campaign.

After that, Rangers decided to loan Alex Lowry to a strong Hearts team for this season, but he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a mainstay for the Edinburgh team.

Wherever the young playmaker ends up next, Alex Lowry is fast running out of chances to impress the Rangers hierarchy and even at his young age needs to get things back on track.

It’s a potentially huge six months in the story of his time at Rangers and let’s hope it’s a fruitful one of the player.

Alex Lowry has made 14 appearances for Rangers since making his debut in the Scottish Cup against Stirling Albion in January 2022.
