Lakers News: Jarred Vanderbilt Discusses Impact On Offensive Glass
The excellent play of forward Jarred Vanderbilt has recently gone unnoticed by the Los Angeles Lakers. Vanderbilt didn’t look quite the same upon his return and wasn’t having much of an impact after missing the first few games of the season.
However, Vanderbilt has been playing more like the player the Lakers anticipated heading into the season. He had a great game against the Los Angeles Clippers, scoring 12 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and committing three thefts.
Vanderbilt stated that he attempts to crash the offensive glass as much as possible, accounting for six of those rebounds on the offensive end.
“I try to go as much as possible,” the Lakers forward said after the 11-point loss to the Clippers. “Sometimes if the numbers are down, I’ll try to get back. But it’s just putting that pressure on the offensive glass to try to create and advantage and get extra possessions for the team.”
Those extra possessions are crucial for the Lakers, especially when the team is struggling offensively. The Lakers aren’t the best perimeter shooting team so getting more opportunities is the perfect way to make up for it.
Vanderbilt believes they should succeed at it and still be able to recover defensively, especially given the Lakers’ uniform size.
Vanderbilt stated, “I think that overall, we have a lot of size on our team.” “So just keep letting a bunch of folks in and make the most of it. Not just for myself, but also for other men. Just keep hitting the glass, and let our size and strength cause us to collide. We have the talent, in my opinion, to be able to crash and bounce back. That, I believe, is what we should do next.
Given that he is the Lakers player who enjoys doing the grunt labor the most, Vanderbilt might be the one spearheading the effort in that regard. He also believes that he isn’t quite back to 100% even though he is getting better.
“I continue to make my way back,” Vanderbilt stated. “Every game seems like I’m improving, even though I still feel like I’m getting my feet under me. I’m just attempting to slow down a little bit and regain my feeling and rhythm. Right now, my feet seem to be moving a little quicker than I would want.
The Lakers have struggled with health, with Vanderbilt being one of the key players who has struggled to get well. However, the Lakers would really benefit from his return to form, and it appears that he is almost there.
Lakers’ Jarred Vanderbilt feeling more comfortable with each game
The Lakers forward has previously mentioned that he is becoming more at ease, and Jarred Vanderbilt has continued to play with the attitude that he is only getting better every game.
Recently, Vanderbilt said, “I’m feeling better.” As I previously mentioned, I feel like I’m improving with every game—be it in terms of comfort, form, or rhythm. I feel more at ease outside the more I play.
