Philippe Clement reacts to Rangers mentality claim from Celtic hero Neil Lennon

The Gers Manager Philippe Clement has responded to Neil Lennon’s criticism that his Rangers squad

lacks the mindset to defeat Celtic, and thanked him for pushing his teammates.

The former Hoops captain and manager claimed the Light Blues have yet to establish they have the grit

to dethrone their opponents, who have dominated Scottish football for the previous 12 years,

with the exception of one season when Gers won the Premiership under Steven Gerrard.

The Ibrox club has already won the Viaplay Cup this season and is eight points back in the title chase

with two games remaining.

However, Lennon questioned their mentality, claiming that the Belgians would need to acquire players

with a strong mindset to fight back in the race for supremacy.

He remarked, “I’m glad individuals outside the club contribute to motivate my players. I need to devote

less time to that presently. The players have demonstrated a strong attitude over the last few months.

“They achieved it even with only eleven players at Celtic Park. So we can’t talk about mentality in that

sense until now.

“We just need to confirm that in the next months.”

Lennon told PLZ Soccer yesterday: “They still haven’t got that mentality of squashing Celtic’s hold on

them, which they need to break if they want to win the league.

“And to do that they need to bring in either players of better quality or better mentality.”

When asked if that would imply bringing in another striker, Lennon replied: “I believe they need a little

more creativity in midfield, as well as more goals from midfield.” And they need a little more power on

the team.”
