BREAKING: Las Vegas Raiders Arranging Interview with Former Chicago Bears Offensive Coordinator Despite His Recent Firing – 2023-24 Postseason

Antonio Pierce became the newest head coach of the venerable Raiders last week when the team officially removed the interim tag off his position. The remaining coaching positions, including the open offensive coordinator post, must be filled as Pierce’s top priority. The Raiders will speak with Luke Getsy, the former offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

OC Mick Lombardi and former head coach Josh McDaniels of the Las Vegas Raiders called the offensive plays to begin the season. But in late October, the Raiders management sacked both of them along with general manager Dave Ziegler. Bo Hardegree, the quarterbacks coach, took over.

Luke Getsy: Longtime NFL Coach

Getsy, a former quarterback for the Akron Zips and Pitt Panthers, began his coaching career with his alma mater in 2007. The native of Pennsylvania began his career in the NFL in 2014, working for Mike McCarthy as an offensive quality control coach for the Green Bay Packers. In 2016, he became a wide receivers coach, and in 2018, he went back to the university as an offensive coordinator. He returned to Green Bay as the quarterback’s coach alongside future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers and current starter Jordan Love after a brief one-year stay with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

In 2022, Getsy was plucked from the Packers by the Chicago Bears, who appointed him as the offensive coordinator under head coach Matt Eberflus. In his debut season, the Bears averaged 19.2 points per game, up 0.5 points from the previous campaign. Justin Fields, the quarterback, gained eight touchdowns and 1,143 yards of running. He did not, however, have much success as a passer, finishing 15 games with just 17 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. With 21.2 points per game in 2023, the Bears’ offensive output increased only little once again.

Once more, Fields was unable to complete 20 passing touchdowns. In spite of Chicago’s incapacity to produce offense through the air, the Bears finished in the top two in terms of rushing yards in each of Getsy’s two seasons.

Las Vegas Raiders: Turning Page to 2024

Next autumn, the Raiders will usher in a new era, their first under Antonio Pierce’s leadership. Under Pierce’s interim leadership, Las Vegas finished 5-4 this season, including a 63-21 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in mid-December. The 13th overall pick in the upcoming draft is owned by the AFC West team. In his inaugural mock draft, NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah predicts that Las Vegas will pick Penn State offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu.
