How Mohamed Diomande helped consign ex-Rangers winger Ryan Kent’s Fenerbahce fate.
Ryan Kent, the star of Fenerbahce and former Ibrox winger, is well-versed in Mohamed Diomande, although most Rangers supporters may not be.
According to reports, Rangers and the 22-year-old Ivorian midfielder from FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark are nearing an agreement worth approximately £4.5 million.
For one of the most talented graduates of Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy, it’s an exciting deal as the team looks to improve their player trading strategy.
The Fenerbahce attacker who was sidelined is likely still having nightmares over Ryan Kent’s encounter with Mohamed Diomande, though, as Ibrox fans worldwide try to learn everything they can about the player.
Ryan Kent faced Rangers-bound star with Fenerbahce
Ryan Kent was hooked as Danish side Nordsjælland humbled Turkish giants Fenerbahce 6-1 in the Europa Conference League earlier in the season.
Mohamed Diomande played the first 45 minutes of the game and registered an assist for Daniel Svensson in the first half, Nordsjælland racing into a 2-0 half-time lead after Lucas Hey opened the scoring.
The second half saw a stunning Danish blitz with Benjamin Nygren – coincidentally the man who replaced Mohamed Diomande – netting a second half hattrick.
Interestingly, Michy Batshuayi, who is connected to Rangers, scored the goal that proved to be a consolation for Fenerbahce after Christian Rasmussen scored the other goal in the second half.
Even though Mohamed Diomande only played for 45 minutes, there are rumors that Ryan Kent’s time with Fenerbahce may be coming to an end, as the former Rangers winger may be leaving the team.
Since the match on November 30, Kent has not returned to the field for Fenerbahce.
Mohamed Diomande looks Ibrox bound
Now, as Mohamed Diomande takes a bold step towards Rangers, Fenerbahce’s Ryan Kent might be looking on with envy.
The former Gers winger was a fan favourite during a five year stint in Glasgow but left the club under a cloud of negativity after a downturn in form and returns.
The move to Turkey – rather predictably – hasn’t exactly turned out as planned and now an exit seemingly beckons.
One such player appears to be Mohamed Diomande as the Rangers board looks to give Philippe Clement the tools to challenge on all fronts, however, the arrival of the Ivorian could spell the end for one former key player.
Rangers begin upgrades under Philippe Clement
By removing injury prone players from the squad, there is more than one benefit.
Wages can be better put to use.
A place in the squad can be freed up for players who are available more often.
Less stress is placed on a smaller group of players to always be available and play more minutes.
We’ve seen it before, it becomes a vicious circle when the same players have to play every week.
Not only do they lose sharpness but they, subconsciously, know that their form doesn’t affect whether or not they will get picked.
Speaking before Christmas, Clement was clearly not happy about constantly having to deal with players breaking down.
“I’m a little bit fed up but I need to speak about it. I don’t know, we’ll see the day after and then it’s another game again.
“We take it day by day what the situation is and what the fitness of the players is.
“It’s difficult to plan in advance so I’m living from day to day.”
This could indicate that Ryan Jack’s time at Rangers is coming to an end if the team signs a player with Mohamed Diomande’s profile for an alleged £4.5 million.
Although Jack is a native of the team, this trait is essentially meaningless if he is sidelined for the majority of the campaign.
It just doesn’t add sense to give the Scotland international another contract after seven years, so some academy player may be promoted to take up the void that he might leave behind.
Mohamed Diomande’s impending signing by the Rangers is the most recent evidence that he might not be in this parish long.
