Michael Ball reveals the thing Sean Dyche does at Everton that ‘frustrates’ him

Michael Ball shares what “frustrates” him about Sean Dyche’s actions at Everton.

Against all the odds, Everton needs all the assistance they can get if they are to secure their spot in the league for a third straight season.

Ultimately, this is their biggest test to date as they attempt to overcome not only the other teams involved in their relegation battle but also the Premier League, which has docked them ten points and counting.

Although Sean Dyche has rightfully received high praise for his efforts in leading the team forward, there are still some weaknesses that are frequently very noticeable.

Although he is far from ideal, he is currently performing admirably for Everton.

Nevertheless, Michael Ball, a pundit and former Premier League defender, has suggested a minor adjustment that he may implement that could completely transform a certain aspect of his squad.

He is frustrated that despite its tiny nature, the problem hasn’t been resolved yet.

What is it about Sean Dyche that annoys Michael Ball?

Writing for the Liverpool ECHO, just hours after he had issued a rallying cry to the players being forced to endure such mental turmoil, he has clearly now turned his attention to the manager and what he might do to come out of this situation unscathed.

Having referenced his work in making their corners so effective, Ball’s piece of advice relates to a similar set-piece situation that they could be making more of.

He prefaced his fury by praising their direct style, noting: ‘This approach has been effective, but there is room for improvement when opportunities do not immediately materialise.

‘One thing that I have noticed is when one of these attacks leads to a throw-in in the opposition half, we very rarely make the most of it. This surprises and frustrates me.’

The former Everton full-back then claimed: ‘I also understand most players don’t like standing around the training pitch doing set pieces for hours on end through the week but without trying to sound like Roy Keane, it is their job!

‘It’s part of the game and it is an opportunity. Small details can make the difference and I believe this area needs improvement as soon as possible.’

For Everton, marginal benefits are significant.

For an underperforming team like Everton, every little bit helps.

These minor improvements—like paying closer attention to details on the corners or spending a little more time honing their defensive alignment—are what will propel a team forward and help them score those crucial few more points.

Ball’s idea is therefore really quite true, since I have found myself laughing at how awful we are at throw-ins.

There is no one who offers and accepts the ball as Andre Gomes does when he is not on the field. Not Amadou Onana. Not Calvert-Lewin, Dominic. No one.

This leaves the Toffees severely blunted when the ball does go out, as it essentially surrenders possession. There is only so far that pumping the ball into channels can take you without needing a little extra quality.

The number of opportunities would probably explode if this could be mastered, which probably wouldn’t take too long.

Even while their recent showing has dazzled, Dyche still has to iron out these little aspects if he is to succeed with a side that is still distinctly weak despite increased investment.
