With 13.3 seconds remaining in a 116-107 victory over the Houston Rockets, Jaylen Brown disheveled his

10th assist of the season to a driving Oshae Brissett, narrowly missing out on his third career triple-

double.

Brown chose to assume the role of primary facilitator on a night when Kristaps Porzingis (32 points),

Derrick White (21 points), and Jayson Tatum (18 points) dominated the scoring department. Brown

finished with a well-rounded 13-point, 11-rebound, 10-assist, three-steal performance at Toyota Center.

“He’s becoming a better playmaker,” head coach Joe Mazzulla said of Brown after the game. “He’s

becoming a better guy of understanding the flow of the game. There were a couple of plays that were

direct learning experiences from the last game with the reads and them trying to change matchups and

finding where that matchup is, and I thought Jaylen did a good job of just playing with poise, using his

speed to generate a crossmatch, finding it, and then making the right play. So he continues to get better

and better.”

Brown’s last triple-double came on April 7, 2022, which also marked his last double-digit assist effort.

Although it’s been a while since he hit such a high number in that department, he’s had some strong

playmaking games this season. He’s dished out at least five assists in exactly one-third of the games he’s

played in and has come close to a triple-double a couple of other times, as well.

“Just being able to make the right plays, see the game,” Brown said of his growth as a playmaker. “Each

night is going to be a different night. We’ve got a good team, which doesn’t require me to score the ball.

It requires you to be a basketball player. Tonight, they were overaggressive helping at the rim. We had

kick-outs and wide-open shots all night. Just keep making the right play over and over again. That’s

what it’s all about.

Porzingis, who was on the receiving end of several of those passes en route to his game-high scoring

performance, commended Brown for shifting his role for the betterment of the team.

It speaks about his leadership,” said Porzingis. “He understands that he doesn’t need to score 30 every

night. He can have this kind of night where he’s not making all the shots, but just making those passes,

making those reads for his teammates.”
