Inter Miami are reportedly set to again loan out Emerson Rodriguez to Santos Laguna, though the Herons want the 23-year-old to be sold permanently.
The Colombian winger played for the Mexican team in 2023, making 31 appearances across all competitions for Liga MX, where he scored twice and provided two assists.
Rodriguez’s future has been the subject of much conjecture since he returned to Inter Miami in January, especially because Tata Martino did not include the young player in his traveling team for El Salvador.
TUDN reports that Inter Miami has negotiated a deal to return Rodriguez to Santos, despite the MLS team’s desire to sell the South American player permanently.
It seems logical that the Herons are willing to cut their losses on Rodriguez given that Inter Miami added Julian Gressel to their roster during this transfer window.
Santos may also come to regret not signing the 23-year-old on a permanent basis, particularly if Rodriguez has a breakthrough Liga MX season in Mexico.
Inter Miami will hope Emerson Rodriguez explodes this year
Although there are still some unanswered questions behind Rodriguez’s second loan move to Santos, it is already widely believed that the winger may return to Inter Miami in 2025.
Martino’s team will also be hoping that the attacker performs better in Mexico this year than Rodriguez did the previous year.
Clubs are obviously interested in the young Inter Miami player, and the Herons stand to gain a lot if Rodriguez has an explosive season in Mexico, which seems likely.
