Saints reportedly request to interview Texans QB coach Jerrod Johnson for coordinator job

Saints reportedly request to interview Texans QB coach Jerrod Johnson for coordinator job.

The New Orleans Saints have added another name to their list of potential offensive coordinators.

The Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson is the fourth coach the Saints have been linked to since they sacked longtime offensive

coordinator Pete Carmichael, and according to a CBS story, the team asked for permission to interview him.

With only four years of NFL coaching experience and no play-calling experience, the 35-year-old Johnson is the least seasoned coach of the five the

Saints have asked to interview; still, he is regarded as a rising star in the coaching ranks.

Under his direction, Texans signal-caller C.J. Stroud put together one of the greatest seasons ever by a rookie quarterback, throwing for 4,108 yards

and 23 touchdowns against 5 interceptions in 15 games. Stroud led the NFL in passing yards per game (273.9).

Prior to joining the Texans as their quarterbacks coach last spring, Johnson spent one year in the same role for the Minnesota Vikings.

That year, Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins made the Pro Bowl after throwing for 4,547 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Johnson attended Texas A&M, just as Dennis Allen, the coach of the Saints.

During his college career, he threw for 8,011 yards and 67 touchdowns with the Aggies, earning him an All-Big 12 honor.

The quarterback coaches of the Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Rams, and Seattle Seahawks, Shane Waldron, Zac Robinson, and Dan Pitcher, have

all been contacted by the Saints for interviews.
