‘Real winner’, ‘Good dribbler’: Rangers reportedly set to make another signing as medical imminent

Mohamed Diomande to Rangers transfer links, player profile and analysis.

Mohamed Diomande, a prodigy from Nordsjaelland, is apparently getting closer to moving to Ibrox, meaning Rangers might soon be adding a new player.

The lone addition made by Rangers thus far this month is the loan acquisition of striker Fabricio Silva from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

While fans are eager to see additional additions before the transfer deadline next week, manager Philippe Clement is presumably feeling the same way.

According to Danish daily BT, Nordsjaelland has decided to deal midfield player Mohamed Diomande to Rangers.

Diomande is flying home from Nordsjaelland’s training camp in the United States and will soon undergo a medical.

It’s unclear just how much Rangers are paying to land Diomande, but let’s dig into his career as he prepares to move to Ibrox

Mohamed Diomande, the story so far

Originally from the Ivory Coast, Diomande attended Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy, which has close relations to Denmark’s Nordsjaelland region.

Similar decisions have been made by Mohammed Kudus and Kamaldeen Sulemana, who have significantly increased Nordsjaelland’s wealth.

After receiving his professional debut in February 2020, Diomande has made 111 appearances for Nordsjaelland and hasn’t looked back.

The 22-year-old has made 13 goals and 14 assists in Denmark while primarily playing as a number 10 or center midfielder.

Diomande is yet to land a senior cap for the Ivory Coast but has earned an Under-23 cap and will be looking for those senior caps after moving to Rangers.

Mohamed Diomande player profile

Mohamed Diomande, what they say

“He is an all-round player. He is at his very best in the central midfield, where he usually takes up a lot of space. He is a player who covers a large area. He is a good dribbler. He is a good ball winner, pretty strong in the main game as well and physically strong,” – Former Nordsjaelland boss Flemming Pedersen.

“He hasn’t had his best season, but Mohamed Diomande still possesses a top level that few can match in the Danish Superliga. He is a player with excellent technique and a good drive on the ball, but he needs to become more decisive and stable to move up the list,” – Tipsbladet’s ranking of top attacking midfielders in Denmark.

“The fact that ‘Dio’ has performed at such a high and stable level from the start is not least due to his strong personality and ambition. He is a good boy who is also a real winner. He is tough on the pitch, but he is also a very intelligent player. He has already proven how versatile he is as he has played several different positions,” – Nordsjaelland sporting director Jan Laursen.

Mohamed Diomande to Rangers analysis

We can always get behind Rangers signing players with potential, especially when their contracts are expiring.

Rangers signed Nicolas Raskin and Todd Cantwell in similar circumstances last year and are now pouncing again with Diomande inside the final year of his Nordsjaelland deal.

Diomande offers Rangers something a little different in midfield as he can offer real drive through the middle of the pitch, carrying the ball forward to spark attacks.

In addition to his creative abilities, Diomande has demonstrated his willingness to put in a lot of work and handle the gritty parts of the game.

Diomande appears to be a versatile skill that Clement can exploit, as Nordsjaelland has witnessed him make late runs into the box to score goals.

Diomande is capable of playing as a number 10 to assist the offense high up the pitch or as a center midfielder breaking forward.

Diomande isn’t the polished product by any means, but Rangers will have a lot of options when it comes to how they employ him, and the Ivorian may have a significant influence in Glasgow.
