Rangers fans should be worried over new John Lundstram contract, same mistakes may be made at Ibrox

Rangers fans should be worried over new John Lundstram contract, same mistakes may be made at Ibrox.

Over the years, Rangers have committed numerous transfer errors with regard to both arrivals and departures at Ibrox.

Two long-serving stars, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, left the Gers only last summer when their contracts expired.

Unfortunately for the club, both of them went on free transfers when their contracts expired. This was a huge mistake considering how much money could have been made from their sales.

Remarkably, the Gers are now returning down that path, as five players from the first squad have contracts expiring at the end of the current campaign.

One such player is the brilliant midfielder John Lundstram, whose circumstances are currently being specifically addressed by manager Philippe Clement.

According to Clement, “it is a financial thing between him and the club,” as reported by Sky Sports on January 20. “It is evident that both parties are interested in doing that, so we will see in the upcoming weeks and months.]

“He is in a situation where he can sign somewhere else but it is clear that he feels good at the club and everybody tells me he is showing a better level than he did at the beginning of this season, so I want to see him continue like that then I think there will be a solution between the two parties.”

Although those remarks should give supporters some comfort, there is a very real possibility that Lundstram will not sign a new contract and will depart in the summer.

With Lundstram serving as Clement’s crucial jigsaw piece, it would be an exact replica of the Kent and Morelos departures.

This season, the former Premier League midfielder has been essential to his management. He most recently shown his goal-scoring abilities in the Scottish Cup victory against Dumbarton on Saturday, January 20.
