Bulls Hammer Grizzlies in 125-96 Rout

Following their nationally broadcast victory on the road in Toronto, the Chicago Bulls took on the badly injured Memphis Grizzlies squad at home on Saturday.

With a 15–26 record going into Saturday, Memphis was five games out of a play-in spot in the Western Conference. Regretfully, the Bulls showed no compassion for the Grizzlies’ injury report.

A Grizzly First Quarter

There wasn’t much basketball style in the first frame. Throughout the opening twelve minutes of the game, the Grizzlies and Bulls alternated in poor ball handling and shooting.

Each team turned the ball over five times in the first quarter, while the Bulls shot 35% (7-20) and the Grizzlies converted 30% (6-20) from the field.

Patrick Williams’ First Half

During the first half, Patrick Williams demonstrated his defensive prowess with one steal and one block. Williams had a meager offensive contribution in the first half, scoring just seven points on 2-7 shooting from the field. With a 4–4 record from the free throw line, the fourth-year forward finished the game with 15 points.

Silver Linings for the Grizzlies

Jaren Jackson Jr. became the team’s main offensive creator with a lengthy list of Grizzlies injured and put up a solid individual effort with 26 points, six rebounds, five assists, and one steal.

Aside from Jackson leading the Grizzlies’ offensive charge, Memphis’ second bright spot came early in the third quarter, when they jumped out to a 10-1 lead thanks to baskets from Jackson, Luke Kennard, and Vince Williams.

Bulls Took a Punch But Kept Swinging

The Bulls held onto the advantage past the 8:19 minute point in the third quarter, despite allowing the Grizzlies to mount an early run in the second half.

The Bulls’ defensive stops and furious dunks, most notably this transition jam by Coby White, constituted a one-two punch for the remainder of the game. In the fourth quarter, Alex Caruso delivered the equivalent of a dagger to help the Bulls cruise to a 125-96 victory.

What’s On Tap Next?

The Bulls play their first game of a three-game road trip to the West Coast on Monday against the Phoenix Suns. The game will air on NBC Sports Chicago, with tip-off scheduled for 8 PM CT.
