After the new Hearts deal was wiped off, Rangers ‘intended’ to test the resolve of the Lawrence Shankland move.
Rangers will “test the water” this month on signing Hearts hero Lawrence Shankland.
This is according to analyst Tam McManus, as rumors are circulating that the Scotland international has rejected a contract offer that would have made him the team’s highest paid player in ten years. The club and player are currently engaged in contract negotiations. However, with rumors of a move to Ibrox and English Championship teams circulating, the Jambos now have a difficult task in persuading Shankland to remain in Gorgie past summer 2025.
Shankland was sick and missed the Hearts’ thrilling 2-1 victory against League Two Spartans; yet, there are growing whispers that a deal could happen this month. Owing to his nonattendance, he won’t be committed when the transfer window closes, which has stoked speculation that the 28-year-old will be moving before February 1 to Scottish Premiership rival Rangers.
Additionally, McManus, a former striker for Hibs, stated on X that he anticipated Philippe Clement’s team to try to sign the frontman this month. H
“This is his chance to sign his career’s final major contract. Therefore, in order to make a good profit, they must sell him this month or in the summer. Rangers should definitely give it a shot this month.
Transfers had nothing to do with the absence, according to Steven Naismith. “He has been sick for the last few days,” the manager stated. Since he hasn’t been in the building since Tuesday or Wednesday, his presence has really little impact. We shall see how our hectic week pans out in the run-up to Dundee.
“There is no chance that Shankland will sign a new contract at Hearts,” the writer stated.
