Most Rangers supporters get shivers down their spines during the winter break. Not because of the warm Scottish weather, but rather because traditionally, the Gers have had trouble resuming their activities in January.

But for Philippe Clement, a mistake tonight would be unimaginable as the Viaplay Cup winners aim for yet another trip to Hampden. When the Light Blues were drawn to play League Two Dumbarton, they were dealt a kind draw. Yes, it is an away game, but considering the huge disparity in caliber between the two clubs, the outcome should be obvious.

And while the Ibrox side can’t afford to be complacent, tonight does give Clement a chance to give one or two fringe players some minutes in the legs ahead of a hectic run of fixtures. Here, Football Scotland predicts how the men in blue will line up.

We’ll find out today whether Clement likes to play with a cup goalkeeper. Robby McCrorie is a solid deputy, but our guess is the Ibrox boss won’t take any risks between the sticks.

James Tavernier

The captain is the first name on the team sheet and will start at the Rock. He’ll set the standards and make it clear there’s no room for complacency.

Connor Goldson

It’s likely Goldson will start at the heart of the defence, but he could be given a rest in the second-half if the game is put to bed early.

John Souttar

Souttar was given the nod against Kilmarnock due to Leon Balogun’s suspension and we expect the stopper to keep his place.

Ridvan Yilmaz

Clement insists his Turkish left-back is fully committed to Rangers despite speculation surrounding his future. Considering Yilmaz has started the last four games, dropping him would only set tongues wagging

Nicolas Raskin

Raskin’s injury return will be a huge boost for Clement for the second half of the campaign. Was given an hour in the midweek friendly against Copenhagen and could start again tonight
