Milan Lucic will stand trial; Bruins player accused assaulting wife (report)
Milan Lucic, a forward for the Boston Bruins, is accused of assault and battery after an altercation at his house in November. A trial date has reportedly been scheduled for Lucic. A trial date has been scheduled for February 16, according to WBZ’s Kim Tunnicliffe. Lucic made his appearance via video call for a status hearing at Boston Municipal Court.
The 35-year-old NHL player is accused of pulling his wife’s hair and trying to choke her, according to a police report. Lucic’s wife said in a 911 call that the player was unable to find his cell phone and believed his wife was hiding it, police said.
The Boston Globe said that “she stated that she attempted to walk away from her husband and stated that her husband grabbed her by the hair and pulled her backwards.” “She claimed that as soon as she did, the suspect told her she was staying put.”
Back in November, Lucic entered a not guilty plea to the charges and was let free on his own recognizance. Two requirements for Lucic’s release were to abstain from alcohol and to issue a no-abuse order. He can be imprisoned for a maximum of 2.5 years and fined $5,000.
Lucic has joined the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and is presently serving an indefinite leave of absence from the team. The program is intended to help players and their families who are dealing with mental health, substance misuse, and other problems.
