The striker is keen to make a major Ibrox impact and Clement has had his say on whether a permanent move was viable
As he identifies one of his major transfer goals to Ibrox, Philippe Clement has disclosed that he wanted
Fabio Silva on a PERMANENT basis.
A pitch inspection is scheduled at 1pm on Saturday, the day of the Scottish Cup fourth round match
against Dumbarton, but not before the Belgian delivered a lengthy transfer address on Friday
afternoon. Only Silva has signed a contract to play on loan from Wolves till the end of the season thus
far, therefore Clement was questioned about how the recruitment process was going for any other
players.
Calvin Bassey was sent to Ajax in 2022 for a club record, but the manager acknowledges that one of his
goals is for the team to increase its revenue from departing players, which he believes has to be done
better. “We’ll see if it’s one or more,” he stated. We all have a plan in place. The club’s desire to take
action and everyone’s alignment are what matter most during this time. It must stay within the
allocated funds. I am aware that we are not the wealthiest club in the world.
“A manager talking about that is unusual, but I am aware of the background. In order for the club to
develop fully, I wish to assist in that manner.”
Furthermore, Clement has acknowledged that he intended the Silva agreement to be finalised on a long-
term basis. Wolves paid over £30 million for the striker when they acquired him from Porto, and
Rangers’ current purchase of him was judged to be too costly.
In response to the question of whether he would prefer to sign players permanently, he said, “We will
see what the situation is.” Although I would have preferred to purchase Fabio, the club could not afford
him, thus he is on loan.”
