New hires and the 2023 season are topics of reflection for Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis.

WLOX, NEW ORLEANS, LA – The New Orleans Saints vice president and general manager, Mickey Loomis, met with the media one day after the team cut ties with three offensive assistants, including offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, to discuss the 2023 campaign and the recent personnel moves leading up to the 2024 campaign.

“We felt that as an organization, we needed the change, and Pete is a fantastic coach who has been with us for 17 and 18 years and has done a lot of really good things,” Loomis stated.

When questioned about Dennis Allen’s future as head coach, Loomis gave his all. He even reached into his pocket for a list of Hall of Fame coaches who, like Allen, had a similar start to their careers and went on to succeed: Chuck Noll, Bill Belichick, and Tom Landry.

According to Loomis, “it’s easy and lazy sometimes to look at the season’s results and say it’s the coach’s fault.” “I think Dennis Allen is a good coach,”

As far as potential player changes within the organization, Loomis remained quiet about any possible moves but remains confident in former first-round picks Trevor Penning and Payton Turner despite rough starts to both of their careers.

According to Loomis, “Payton, for instance, was doing some really good things and got hurt.” It’s difficult, but he doesn’t seem to be attempting to harm himself. Due to a few injuries, Trevor Penning’s progress has delayed. It’s not the same as underestimating their ability.

While assistant general managers Jeff Ireland and Khai Harley interview for other positions, the team’s priorities will be the Senior Bowl and selecting their next offensive coordinator.
