Reports: Cowboys retaining head coach Mike McCarthy
In 2024, Mike McCarthy will rejoin the Dallas Cowboys as head coach, according to a number of media
reports on Wednesday. McCarthy, sixty, has only won one postseason game with the Cowboys in his four
regular season records of 42-25, which include NFC East crowns in 2021 and 2023. Following a 48-32
home defeat to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in the wild-card round, McCarthy’s situation has not
been discussed by Cowboys general manager Jerry Jones.
McCarthy’s contract is set to expire after leading the Cowboys to three consecutive seasons with twelve
wins. Among the Cowboys who supported McCarthy following Sunday’s defeat was Dak Prescott, who
finished 2023 with the greatest completion percentage of his career (69.5) and passed for 4,516 yards
and a league-high 36 touchdowns.
Prescott remarked, “He’s been amazing.” “I understand the business, though I’m not sure how there can
be questions regarding his status. He’s the reason I’ve had this season.” It is mostly down to him that
this team has had such success. And yes, I know that the league and this city are built on winning the
Super Bowl, and that’s what matters most. I understand.
