The 30-year-old only agreed to a one-year deal after the Danes made an optimistic gamble, but it now seems like they won’t let him go cheaply.
Although Anderlecht is eager to get Filip Helander to the Juniper Pro League, they may need to reconsider after two bids of £125,000 and £150,000 were turned down.
In the context of modern football, Odense’s asking price isn’t very high, but for a player who is about to have his contract expire and hasn’t hit
double figures in appearances in three seasons, it isn’t exactly cheap.
The stated amount is approximately €1 million, or £850,000, and it is doubtful that Anderlecht will spend that much.
As a stop gap, Helander is probably seen as a safe, and cheap, pair of hands but you wouldn’t want to build your defence around him given his
issues over the last five years.
There has never been any doubting his quality and, after this season, if he stays fit for the rest of the campaign, he will probably have a few more
offers on the table.
As he has said recently, he’s not going to be picky given how reluctant some teams might be to touch a player with his profile.
Someone, as Anderlecht and Odense prove though, will always take a gamble on a defender as good as Helander.
