In their first roster move, the Cowboys sign a “aggressive” former 13-TD running back.

One of the Dallas Cowboys’ first offseason roster additions is more depth at running back. Following the ink on eight players’ Reserve/Future contracts, the Cowboys revealed three more signings. Along with receiver Martavis Bryant, Dallas has also signed running backs Snoop Conner and Maliki Davis.

Prior to the NFL playoffs, the organization decided to use the wide receiver’s place for a different player after he had a brief spell on the practice squad this season. Throughout the previous two seasons, Davis has been a member of Dallas’ practice squad.

Considering that Conner was not on the Dallas roster before, he is arguably the most notable addition. Conner most recently appeared in eight games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022, accumulating 42 yards on 12 attempts.

Receiver Jalen Moreno-Cropper, wideout Racey McMath, tackle Earl Bostick, cornerback Josh Butler, tight end Princeton Fant, linebacker Buddy Johnson, pass rusher Durrell Johnson, and defensive back Sheldrick Redwine were all previously announced by the Cowboys as having signed Reserve contracts.

Snoop Conner, the new running back for the Dallas Cowboys, scored 13 touchdowns against Ole Miss in 2021.

The newest running back has a stellar collegiate record and was a standout player at Ole Miss. In 2021, Conner gained 647 yards and 13 touchdowns on 130 carries.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein called Conner “aggressive” and “rocked up” prior to the 2022 NFL draft. Conner was chosen by Jacksonville in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

“Rocked up runner with aggressive disposition and relatively low mileage on his tires,” Zierlein noted in Conner’s pre-draft profile. “Conner is a scheme-versatile runner, which could help him as he transitions to the next level. He’s more than willing to choose violence on every snap but rarely allows that mindset to prevent him from seeking out less-trafficked pathways with his vision.

Because of his lightning-fast speed, he will occasionally run himself into tackles, but paradoxically, he is a very patient and productive short-yardage back. It’s difficult to dismiss Conner’s underwhelming performance at the NFL Scouting Combine, though, and it might damage his reputation with scouts. Conner projects as a good committee back with the build to carry a workload when necessary. He has three-down talent.
