Despite not making the playoffs this season, the New York Giants had a favourable wild-card weekend.
The Philadelphia Eagles were eliminated after trailing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 32–9, while the NFC
East foe Dallas Cowboys were thrashed 48–32 in front of their home crowd by the underdog Green Bay Packers.
During an exclusive interview with Sports Illustrated
Robin Lundberg, Giants running back Saquon Barkley
stated, “Yeah, I think if you’re a true Giants fan, obviously
you’re upset with the way the season went.” “Yet it
certainly does help to watch the Eagles and Dallas get
eliminated in the first round on the first wild-card round weekend.”
The Giants had injury problems and ended 6-11 in 2023 after defeating the Minnesota Vikings in the
wild-card round and won nine games the previous season. Though they were declared out of the
postseason race in Week 16, things are not quite hopeless in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The losses this past weekend by Dallas and Philadelphia demonstrated, in Barkley’s words, “that the
NFC East is really up for grabs.” You truly have a chance to win it all if you just get everything right for next year.
Tommy DeVito, the quarterback for the Giants, made a similar statement and went viral this season
while starting six games under centre.
DeVito informed Lundberg, “For Giants fans, like [Barkley] said, it’s the best case scenario to see those
two teams knocked out early.” “It benefited the Giants community.”
Barkley, 26, left the Giants after six seasons and will be available as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Unless the general office takes a different turn this spring, DeVito, who is signed for the upcoming
season, will be in the quarterback’s room with Daniel Jones of the Giants.
