Saints to interview Bengals QB coach Dan Pitcher for OC job

Saints will interview Dan Pitcher, the QB coach for the Bengals, for the position of offensive coordinator.

New Orleans parted ways with long-time OC Pete Carmichael.

The New Orleans Saints are interviewing Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher for their vacant offensive coordinator job. New Orleans parted ways with long-time offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael on Tuesday.

Pitcher, 37, is part of the Kyle Shanahan-Sean McVay tree that has seen success across the league. Green Bay Packers head coach Matt Lafluer, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, and Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor are all successful and talented coaches who have branched from this successful system.

The Saints have just finished a disappointing season that fell short of expectations. A major offensive shortcoming for New Orleans was a lack of imagination in their play calling. In terms of pre-snap motion and play action, the Saints fared poorly.

Pitcher began his NFL coaching career in 2012 as a scouting assistant for the Indianapolis Colts. Pitcher began his career with the Bengals in 2016 as an offensive assistant and worked his way up to quarterbacks coach. Former first-overall pick Joe Burrow’s development has been greatly aided by the pitcher.
