Is Zac Robinson going to be the next coach under Sean McVay to be promoted in the NFL?

 

The New Orleans Saints, who want to be like the Los Angeles Rams, have asked to interview Zac Robinson, an assistant to Sean McVay, to take over as their offensive coordinator. Following the firing of longtime coordinator Pete Carmichael, Jr. after 15 seasons on the team, Robinson is expected to take over as offensive coordinator in New Orleans.

Although Robinson wouldn’t be the first McVay coach to be promoted, this would be his first job as offensive coordinator.

Robinson was a quarterback at Oklahoma State and a seventh round pick of the Patriots in 2010. Robinson bounced around the league a little bit until 2013 and then got his start as a coach with the Rams in 2019. Robinson had been an assistant quarterbacks and receivers coach until being promoted to pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2022.

Other offensive assistants under McVay who went on to become head coaches or offensive coordinators include Thomas Brown, Wes Phillips, Kevin O’Connell, Matt LaFleur, and Zac Taylor. The Seahawks’ offensive coordinator, Shane Waldron, may lose his job when the team selects a new head coach. Regarding defense, the Packers have Joe Barry as their defensive coordinator and former head coach Brandon Staley for three years. Raheem Morris may also get promoted to head coach this month.

Dennis Allen, the head coach who has kept his job despite the team missing the playoffs for the past two seasons, and Robinson would be working together. Allen has led the Raiders and Saints to the playoffs just once in his five years as head coach, and 2023’s
