Mike McCarthy’s Meeting With Jerry Jones Will Reportedly Be A Sales-Pitch To Keep His Job.
The aftermath of the Dallas Cowboys’ unexpected loss to the Green Bay Packers is still being felt, especially in regards to Mike McCarthy’s future as head coach.
Regarding January 17, three days following Dallas’ humiliating 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers, McCarthy, who still has one year remaining on his deal, has not been let off from his position.
McCarthy’s meeting with owner and general manager Jerry Jones this week, however, would be “like a job interview,” according to a Cowboys
source who talked to Sports Illustrated. The goal of a job interview, of course, is to present yourself as deserving of the position.
QB Dak Prescott informed the reporters that if his head coach is under fire, then so should he, meaning that McCarthy’s future will not be the only one under scrutiny.
“He has performed admirably. Prescott said, “I understand the business, but I’m not sure how there could be speculation.
“Then, to be very honest, I had to include a little bit about myself. I am aware that winning the Super Bowl is the aim.
That’s the norm throughout the league, and it’s most definitely the norm here. I get it, but if that’s the case, put my name on the list.
While the Cowboys have won 12 games for three straight seasons under McCarthy, his record in the postseason in Dallas is 1-3, with the latest loss
to the Packers being the most egregious as it made the Cowboys the first #2 seed to lose to a #7 seed since it was introduced in 2020.
After the game, Jones spoke with reporters, essentially too shocked by the outcome to talk about McCarthy’s future.
“I haven’t given it a single consideration. My entire mind was focused on preparing for this week’s playoff game. Jones remarked to the reporters on Sunday, “I am amazed to be sitting where we are right now.
McCarthy’s contract will expire at the end of the 2024 season, so unless the Cowboys fire him or sign him to an extension, there will be uncertainty around his future.
