Ireland has the following five things to be aware of:

1. Almost ten years in New Orleans

Ireland, a front office staff member with a long experience with the Saints, recently concluded his ninth season in New Orleans.

He joined the Saints in 2015 and has contributed to their continued competitiveness during that time.

2. Former GM

Ireland’s long career in NFL front offices also saw him land the Dolphins General Manager job.

He began the job alongside Bill Parcells in 2008 when Parcells served as the executive vice president of football operations.

Miami was able to win the AFC East in the first season with Ireland after a massive overhaul on the roster. Ireland replaced almost half the roster, bringing on board 27 new players that included nine new starters.

Ireland was Miami’s GM until after the 2013 season.

3. Previous scouting experience

Ireland has a ton of NFL scouting expertise as well.

His first position with a team was as an area scout for the Chiefs from 1997 to 2000. He had begun his career as a scout for the NFL Scouting Combine.

However, Ireland’s greatest opportunity to advance came during his lengthy stay with the Cowboys.

His first position upon hiring in 2001 was national scout, a position he held until advancing to vice president of college and pro scouting in Dallas.

Ireland made a significant contribution to Dallas’ 13-3 record and NFC East championship in 2007. 38 of the 53 players on the team had been added during the previous three

4. Former kicker for a college

Ireland played kicker at Baylor between 1988 and 1991.

With 213 points and a career-high 45 field goals, the Bears placekicker would rank third on the school’s all-time scoring chart. In the 1992 Senior Bowl, Ireland was the kicker for the South team.

5. Got into coaching

Following his graduation from college, Ireland pursued a career as a coach.

In 1992, he started working at the University of North Texas as a special teams coach.

After that, Ireland would keep the post for one additional season before eventually joining the NFL Scouting Combine as a scout.
