If Josh Doig’s Marseille transfer falls through, Celtic may try to sign the defender for £4.5 million.
Former left back for Hibernians Josh Doig’s transfer to Marseille fell through at the last minute. Before
Hellas Verona terminated the agreement, the 6′ 2″ defender was scheduled to join Gattuso’s Ligue 1
team.
Doig, who spent his time at Hibernian and was strongly connected to Celtic, was the target of an agreed-
upon £4.5 million fee. But his club had a change of heart because the athlete was allegedly getting ready
for a flight to the South of France.
Sassuolo is anticipated to enter the competition for the player and be prepared to provide a more
alluring package in exchange for the Scottish defender’s services. Could Celtic make a move, though,
given that the £4.5 million figure is very close to Doig’s asking price?
Doig would provide height, pace, and aggression to the back line in addition to qualifying for the club’s
European team as a member of the Scottish national team. It’s no secret that the manager wants to give
Greg Taylor some competition and let go of Alexandro Bernabei.
Owen Beck from Liverpool has been linked to Celtic. Before being called up, the young Welsh player
played the first part of the season at Dundee, where he made an impression. It is yet unclear if Liverpool
would permit him to go on a temporary or permanent basis.
Since Bernabei is leaving Verona, one would even question if Verona would entertain a cash plus player
swap with Celtic, who have been wanting to reinforce the left back position for some time. The Argentine
possesses an Italian passport, and his tenure at Celtic has been marred by off-field problems thus far.
Even if Ange and Brendan saw him every day at training and chose to limit his time in the first squad, it
is unfortunate that we haven’t seen more of him.
