Former Rangers hero make sensational return to football in new managerial role.
Dick Advocaat, the former manager of Rangers, has decided to take on his 28th managerial position and make a spectacular comeback to the game of football.
Between July 1998 and December 2001, Advocaat led the Gers to three and a half successful seasons as manager. winning two league titles, two Scottish Cups, and one League Cup. During this time, the team is renowned for breaking transfer records multiple times, bringing in notable players like Brian Laudrup, Giovanni Van Bronkhorst, and Tore Andre Flo.
Only seven months had passed since the seasoned football player left ADO Den Hag of the Netherlands to declare his retirement from the game. After first saying he would roll credits, ESPN has now verified the 76-year-old’s decision to rescind his retirement for the fifth time in his managerial career.
Advocaat, who has already managed PSV (twice), Zenit Saint Petersburg, Sunderland, Fenerbahce, and Feyenoord, has consented to join Curaçao in North America for his tenth foreign management position.
The veteran started his international career with the Netherlands women’s team and also took charge of the men’s team on three separate occasions. He also earned international experience with the likes of the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, Belgium, Russia, Serbia and Iraq.
Due to his tournament expertise, Advocaat has led the Netherlands to the 1994 World Cup quarterfinals and the 2004 Euro semifinals. His South Korean squad was eliminated in the World Cup 2006 group stage, while his Russian team did not go past the Euro 2012 group stage. The Curacao soccer federation reports that Advocaat and the island nation have reached an agreement on a one-year deal that includes a one-year extension. It didn’t say if Advocaat or the federation owns the option.
