Dallas Cowboys offseason: Considering everything, the Dak Prescott top of market extension seems likely.
The Dallas Cowboys will have to make a lot of tough decisions this offseason. Obviously, the Cowboys’
first priority must be to determine their feelings toward their leadership, since everything else is merely
a set of dominoes waiting to be the first to fall. But until a decision is reached there, we remain in a state
of ambiguity.
But in due time, the Cowboys will resolve their head coaching dilemma and be able to focus on building a
roster that will perform well in the postseason. If only everything were that easy.
Given all the information, the Dak Prescott top of market extension seems inevitable.
We are going to talk about a series of facts. It is up to you to decide what inference you want to draw
from them all.
First fact: CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons will most likely receive compensation throughout this
offseason.
I should have known better than to begin our list of “facts” with conjecture, but this seems like fact. With
Lamb’s lack of a long-term contract, the Cowboys should never allow themselves to travel to Oxnard.
Additionally, Parsons may decide not to travel to California at all as he has performed admirably during
his first three seasons and can now finally capitalize on that.
Recognizing that this is likely to be the case, as the offseason gets underway, think about the average
yearly salary of the highest paid wide receivers and edge rushers.
NFL’s top 5 wide receivers in terms of salary (AAV)
Tyreek Hill, $30 million annually, Miami Dolphins
Las Vegas Raiders’ Davante Adams ($28 million annually)
Los Angeles Rams’ Cooper Kupp ($26.7 million annually)
Philadelphia Eagles’ A.J. Brown ($25 million annually)
Seattle Seahawks/Buffalo Bills/D.K. Metcalf ($24 million annually)
It should be noted that both Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase are expected to be ready to sign second
contracts, thus the Minnesota Vikings and Cincinnati Bengals will have to deal with the wide receiver
market this offseason. The cost will keep skyrocketing.
