San Fransisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan speaks on his preparation for the Packers after blowout win against Cowboys
Head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Kyle Shanahan, discussed the team’s practice regimen for the Green Bay
Packers prior to their playoff game. In the opening round of the playoffs, the Packers overcame the Dallas Cowboys
on the road, and they will now play the No. 1 49ers at Levis Stadium. When Green Bay was dominating Dallas in
their first-round matchup, Shanahan talked about his attention being on the Packers.
“We were practicing that day because we were already at this [the
practice facility]. We had visited a few teams earlier in the week, mixing
things up a bit, but midway through the second quarter, we really
turned our attention to the Packers. According to Ari Meirov at The
33rd Team, Shanahan said, “Then they scored at the end of the second
quarter, so I kind of did both at halftime and then third quarter I was set on one team.”
The 49ers are the clear favourites to win the Super Bowl, just behind the Baltimore Ravens. San Francisco is perhaps
the deepest club in the league because they have All-Pro players on both sides of the ball. One of the NFL’s most
seasoned teams will take on one of the league’s youngest in the game versus the Packers. Despite the lack of
postseason experience among its starting lineup, the Green Bay Packers easily defeated the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.
It might have been an offensive shootout in the Cowboys game, but against Green Bay, the strategy is different. The
49ers must ensure that the game is decided defensively. In order to maintain the 49ers’ advantage in the game,
defence must play with a sense of urgency given their abundance of offensive weapons.
