2024 NFL Draft: Dallas Cowboys officially hold 24th overall pick in first round.
The Cowboys’ official selection in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft is known.
The Dallas Cowboys’ season is done, and it will never be simple to get used to how rapidly the time passes. It seems like only five minutes ago that we were organizing and getting ready for the NFL Playoffs, but now we have to focus on free agency negotiations and NFL Draft preparations.
Regarding the latter, we know for sure where the Cowboys will select in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft since they are now finished and out of contention. The magic number is twenty-four.
Last year the Cowboys held the 26th overall pick as a result of winning their Wild Card game (imagine that) so this year will pick slightly earlier. Incidentally, the Cowboys picked in this exact spot two years ago after losing their Wild Card game (sigh) and wound up with Tyler Smith.
Here are the 10 most recent 24th overall picks:
- 2023: Deonte Banks (New York Giants)
- 2022: Tyler Smith (Dallas Cowboys)
- 2021: Najee Harris (Pittsburgh Steelers)
- 2020: Cesar Ruiz (New Orleans Saints)
- 2019: Josh Jacobs (Oakland Raiders)
- 2018: D.J. Moore (Carolina Panthers)
- 2017: Gareon Conley (Oakland Raiders)
- 2016: William Jackson III (Cincinnati Bengals)
- 2015: D.J. Humphries (Arizona Cardinals)
- 2014: Darqueze Dennard (Cincinnati Bengals)
Compiling this list was made all the more gloomy by the fact that the clubs who selected in those slots were, by definition, losers from the previous season’s Wild Card round. Only the Bengals have made major progress in the last ten years out of the entire group, and a major factor in that success was the actual bottoming out that resulted in Joe Burrow’s selection.
The Cowboys now stand at this point. They intend to stay with this company.
