Among the panelists for ESPN’s picks, Ponder was the only one to select the Packers.

The inaccurate pre-game predictions made by the network have been a source of entertainment here for many years. Even as late as

Saturday, all of NFL Network’s analysts selected the Cleveland Browns to defeat the Houston Texans. However, in a 45-14 thrashing, Joe Flacco and company did anything but.

Rich Eisen, at least, was smart enough to have everyone in the crew smile for a picture while they tempted fate.

Jason Kirk once suggested that someone on each panel should deliberately choose the opposite of the unanimous pick to avoid

becoming a meme. We do not know if Sam Ponder had this idea before Sunday’s Dallas Cowboys-Green Bay Packers Wild Card game, but she did end up being the only one to choose differently:

Cowboys 32, Packers 48 in the end. (And 16 of those Cowboy points came in the last six minutes of Sunday’s already lopsided contest.)

Dallas was the 7-point favorite and undefeated at home going into Sunday’s game, making this the biggest upset of the weekend so far.

This is also the Packers club that, with a little bit of assistance, backed into the No. 7 spot and missed out on the playoffs.

Ponder did well to defy expectations in this situation, sparing the Sunday NFL Countdown crew from a full-blown memeing.

Sadly, Ponder was unable to save her NFL Live colleagues, who all correctly predicted Dallas to win and did so with relative ease. Additionally, they were all in agreement that the Los Angeles Rams would upset the Detroit Lions, and we all know how that one ended.

Ponder’s Packers selection may have saved the day, but we can’t absolve her of responsibility for selecting the Miami Dolphins to defeat

the Kansas City Chiefs; Mike McDaniel’s team suffered a 26-7 loss in the fourth-coldest NFL game ever.

Ponder’s Packers prediction prevented Tedy Bruschi, Randy Moss, Rex Ryan, Alex Smith, and the Dolphins-Chiefs pick from becoming

memes, even though she may not be clairvoyant.
