Rangers transfer news: Ridvan Yilmaz exit stance shared amid Galatasaray interest

Rangers transfer news: Ridvan Yilmaz leaving stance shared amid Galatasaray interest.

Turkish reporter Dogan Gundogdu claims that Ridvan Yilmaz plans to remain at Rangers past the January transfer window.

A “cheeky” approach of about £3.4 million is said to have been rejected by the Gers from Super Lig team Galatasaray [Daily Record, 15 January].

Ridvan is rumored to be interested in Hellas Verona as well, but Gundogdu anticipates he will stay at Ibrox.

The Sozcu journalist wrote on his own Twitter profile on January 15, saying, “Ridvan Yilmaz wants to continue at Rangers.” He does not intend to visit Turkey.

Not a hurry

At one point, Ridvan’s departure from Rangers this month appeared inevitable, while Borna Barisic’s future is still up in the air.

But the likelihood that he will stay at Ibrox until the very end of the campaign is beginning to increase.

The Gers won’t sell until the right price is met, even though they would prefer an improvement over Ridvan, who hasn’t shown consistency when needed.

With three and a half years left on his deal, the Rangers have the upper hand.

More evidence of it comes from the fact the player reportedly wants to stay even if his career with the Gers never really took off.

The player’s and the team’s positions might shift in the summer, in which case Rangers will have more time to locate a successor.

But for the time being, Ridvan and Barisic will continue to battle it out for the left-back starting spot.
