For the 8-year-old Nicholas Bostic, Basketball is a huge and major part of his life.

“That’s all he talks about, all we hear is how he wants to go to UNC and then the NBA,” his mother Kristen Mullins said. “Just like his favorite player of all-time Michael Jordan.”

“And because of that, he started watching the Bulls and fell in love with DeMar DeRozan,” stated Mullins.

Nicholas received a surprise ticket to see the Bulls play the Charlotte Hornets from Santa for Christmas. Nicholas mentioned making a wish at his birthday celebration, which was a few days prior to the game.

Nicholas said, “I requested to see DeMar DeRozan.”

Then, Nicholas had a unique chance to see the warm-ups at the game with his family. With the assistance of his mother, he created a sign that said,

“Please sign my birthday shirt.”

Later on, Nicholas asked his mother to write something else on the opposite side of the sign:

“Hey, DeRozan. I want your job.'”

When the game was about to start, DeRozan noticed Nicholas’ sign.

“You could see the sign catch his eye and then he stopped to read it,” she said, .

“I said, ‘Quick, turn it around before you lose his attention.'” mentioning that the basketball player pointed at Nicholas with a broad smile on his face.

Nicholas and his mother were waved down to the court by DeMar.

Nicholas recalled, “I told him he was my favorite player, and he said thank you.”

It was a fulfilled birthday wish.

“I can’t think of anything we could ever possibly do to encourage him that would be more than what DeMar DeRozan did,” Mullins said.
