Jerry Jones discusses the Cowboys’ immediate postseason plans following their playoff defeat.
Jerry Jones was visibly upset that the Dallas Cowboys were unable to capitalize on their home field and
No. 2 seed after suffering yet another heartbreaking loss in the postseason. After the Green Bay Packers
defeated the team 48–32, he withheld information regarding the situation of head coach Mike
McCarthy.
Rather, Jones stated that his only task on the day following the match was to “dismiss” the team. That
appears to mean sending his guys home for the summer. He remained silent about his intentions about
the future of his head coaching job with the Cowboys.
The Cowboys finished the regular season with a record of 12-5 and were able to win the NFC East title in
the last week of play by taking advantage of the Philadelphia Eagles’ late-season downturn.
In the regular season, the Cowboys had been so dominant at home (8-0, with six of those victories
coming by large margins) that it was assumed they would at least make it to the NFC Championship
game.
They would have played a second playoff game at home in the divisional round if they had defeated the
Packers.
If Jerry Jones determines that McCarthy isn’t the guy he wants guiding the Cowboys, he may have a lot
of options. Bill Belichick, a six-time Super Bowl champion, is no longer in charge of the New England
Patriots and most likely wants to stay in that position. With his kind of record, the Cowboys would be a
more dangerous club in the postseason going forward.
