Exclusive: Everton expect devastating 12-point deduction amid huge development today

After being accused on Monday, January 15, of violating the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability criteria (PSR), sources have informed Football Insider that Everton is likely to face a catastrophic new six-point deduction.

The League is going to charge the Merseysiders and Nottingham Forest for not adhering to the budgetary criteria. According to people familiar with Everton’s financial status, the team anticipates receiving a fresh six-point deduction when the independent committee considers their most recent case.

Any penalty imposed on the Merseysiders will be in addition to the 10-point deduction they already received in November. Everton is appealing the deduction, which was the most in Premier League history.

It is believed the club expect their original 10-point penalty to be reduced – perhaps to around six points – meaning their new points deduction could add up to around 12 points in total. Clubs had to submit their accounts for the 2022-23 campaign by 31 December – with any notification of breaches and charges coming 14 days later.

Over a rolling three-year period, Premier League teams can lose up to £105 million (£35 million each season). Following Everton’s prior violation, an independent panel determined that the club lost £124.5 million in 2021–2022.

Another setback came on Friday, January 12, when Football Insider reported that 777 Partners are “losing hope” that the Premier League will sanction their takeover of Everton. The US group reached an agreement back in September to purchase Farhad Moshiri’s 94% ownership of the club, but they have been waiting for approval for more than 17 weeks.
