Chelsea ready shock move for Aston Villa striker in January transfer window.
The Blues barely defeated Fulham on the weekend to extend their winning streak in the Premier League to three games, but they still have issues up top. After losing to Middlesbrough 1-0 in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, Mauricio Pochettino’s team has struggled to identify a reliable goal source all season.
Christopher Nkunku, the summer signing from Senegal, is still dealing with injuries while Nicolas Jackson is participating for his country at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Frenchman will shortly resume training with the first team, but Chelsea is apparently eyeing a short-term loan to increase their offensive depth. And reports suggest that individual might be Duran of Aston Villa.
The Colombian, who joined from Chicago Fire last season, has two league goals so far this season but has yet to start a game due to the form and consistency of Ollie Watkins.
The 20-year-old has also been the subject of interest from Serie A side AC Milan but is not likely to leave Villa unless Unai Emery’s side have a replacement lined up.
Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney are two other players that Chelsea has been considering adding, although both would need a significant payment to close in January. In order to activate Osimhen’s release clause in his new Napoli deal, Chelsea will need to pay at least £112 million, while Brentford has set their price tag at approximately £100 million for the 27-year-old.
Pochettino earlier stated, “We are assessing the squad like always,” in response to a question regarding the team’s intentions to sign a striker in January. However, I’m glad that we have a variety of striker alternatives. Now, we just need our second line offensive players to step up, score, and contribute to the team’s success in the standings.
