Joe Gelhardt wages: What does Leeds United’s 21-year-old target for Celtic and Rangers make?

A number of exceptionally gifted players joined Leeds after the club’s youth investment in the Premier

League, most notably Joe Gelhardt, who joined from Wigan Athletic in 2020.

The young player arrived with a good reputation, which he demonstrated in Leeds’ youth system by

embarrassing the Premier League in the under-21 division before joining the senior team and

performing admirably in the 21/22 campaign, much like players like Ruben Neves and Lewis Dunk.

However, he hasn’t been able to establish himself on the team either this season or last, since managers

haven’t been able to assign him a certain role.

Despite just managing eight appearances in all competitions thus far, he is finding it difficult to have an

effect this season. His last start occurred in the EFL Cup back in August.

Rangers and Celtic in the Gelhardt hunt

According to a recent Daily Mail article, Celtic and Rangers are both eager to capture the youthful Leeds

striker during the January transfer window.

Gelhardt was on loan at Sunderland during the previous season, and as he is still considered a fringe

player under Farke, he may attract more interest this time around.

After Leeds was promoted to the Premier League, they quickly moved to take Gelhardt away from a

struggling Wigan team that had been demoted to League One.

Leeds paid about £1 million to acquire the young player from the Latics, so it was a relative steal.

After initially signing with the team as a youth player at the age of 18, Gelhardt signed a long-term

contract with them in the summer of 2022, which would keep him with the team until 2027.

Gelhardt’s “verified” weekly pay of £15,000, as reported by Capology, translates into an annual income

of £780,000.
