After the winger posts a photo of himself on a plane, Sean Dyche dismisses rumors that Arnaut Danjuma may switch from Everton to Lyon during the January transfer window.
After winger Arnaut Danjuma shared a photo of himself on a plane amid rumors of a move to Lyon, Sean Dyche brushed down talk that the player would be departing the team this month and stated he will play in Sunday’s match against Aston Villa.
Danjuma, formerly of Bournemouth and Tottenham, signed a season-long loan with the Toffees from Villarreal in the summer but has found it difficult to establish himself in Dyche’s starting lineup. The Dutch international, who was born in Nigeria, has started just four Premier League games for the squad.
And his agent, Michael Moses Jarman, confirmed on radio station talkSPORT that Danjuma was in talks with Ligue 1 side Lyon. The player stirred the pot further by posting a picture on Instagram of himself on a plane with Jarman.
But Dyche has rubbished talk of him leaving this window and said: ‘The situation is simple – he’s an Everton player. He played in the last game and has a fair chance of playing in the next one. I had a word with him as it seems excessive to go from Manchester to Liverpool in a plane!’
“He said nothing other than he wants to work hard and play,” Dyche continued, making fun of Danjuma’s motivation for traveling via plane. We’ve been stretched in a lot of ways, so we need everyone.
The only issue is that we are powerless over everything; these players all have agents. People frequently ask us why we have no authority over agents, much alone players. He plays for Everton. All of these circumstances are under our control.
Dwight McNeil will not play for Everton this season after being stretchered off at Crystal Palace, but they have been “incredibly fortunate” not to suffer a major injury. The former Burnley player is expected to return after the winter break, but he will not feature against Aston Villa.
