Leeds United could be onto a bargain transfer with PL interest emerging – View
This weekend marks the halfway point of January for Leeds, and their roster appears to be weaker than
it was at the beginning of the month.
This is a result of two right-backs departing the team: Luke Ayling left to join Middlesbrough, while Djed
Spence’s loan was revoked.
reported on Thursday that Leeds maintain interest in signing West Ham full-back Ben Johnson this
month, trying to secure a loan agreement to bring him to Elland Road.
Under David Moyes, Johnson has only made two Premier League appearances this season; both sides of
the Irons defense have been preferred over him.
Since his breakthrough, his defensive mobility has allowed him to move into midfield and operate just as
easily on either side of the West Ham defense.
Leeds could be eyeing a bargain with Ben Johnson
Although Johnson, even at face value, seems like a good addition for Farke’s back four, Leeds should still
go through with this purchase for other reasons.
Leeds will have the opportunity to sign a player with Premier League experience for no transfer price as
the 23-year-old’s contract expires in the summer and he may go for nothing.
Whether the Whites are promoted this season or not shouldn’t matter because a strong loan period
should persuade the team to commit to him as a starter or as squad depth.
Johnson seems like a perfect fit for Farke, who needs a right-wing defender who can defend first rather
than continuously sprint down the touchline.
