news.

Sean Whetstone claims that Rangers is one of the teams interested in recruiting West Ham defender Ben

Johnson. On Saturday, January 13, the Six Foot Two editor gave an update on Johnson, who is about to

become unemployed, on his personal Twitter page.

The former England Under-21 international, who started eight times for the

Irons during their run to

Europa Conference League victory last season, is reportedly being considered for a move by Leeds

United, Sheffield United, and Southampton. West Ham might ask a club to cover Johnson’s salaries and

loan amount, or they could try to secure a fee for him this month.

Although Johnson is no longer in favor at West Ham, Stuart Pearce formerly praised him as

a “wonderful professional.” Johnson’s versatility—he has played on both sides of

defense for West Ham this season—is what makes  him stand out above other players.

The defender has been referred to be a “utility player” by David Moyes in the past, which has advantages

and disadvantages.

The drawback of that is that, considering how little Johnson actually plays for the Irons, he can be

viewed as a jack of all crafts and a master of none. Rangers are definitely looking for a new left-back, and

it would be wonderful to have someone who can  also play right when James Tavernier isn’t available.

Simultaneously, a specialist is required—a player who can get right to work and assist the Gers in

reaching their season goals.

This move is made slightly more alluring by the fact that Johnson is available for a nominal sum and is

coveted by a few other prominent clubs. But it’s best to go elsewhere because Johnson plays right-back,

which is his specialty, and his pay is

apparently not bad.

In other Rangers news, a dependable reporter expressed his opinions about the rumors surrounding the

Jesse Lingard to Ibrox deal.
